Yet another “neutral” entity is discriminating against Christians, and this time, it likely violates the Constitution. Last week, after attending the March for Life, a group of Catholic high schoolers decided to visit The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum before being kicked out by museum workers because some of the students were wearing a hat that said “pro-life” and the name of their school on it.
“On January 20, students and chaperones from Our Lady of the Rosary School based out of Greenville, South Carolina, traveled to Washington, D.C., for the annual National March for Life. The group members were all wearing matching blue beanies with the words ‘Rosary PRO-LIFE.,'” according to Washington, DC’s Fox 5.
The outlet continued, “The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), representing the parents of some of the students involved, alleged that the museum staff mocked the students, hurled expletives and claimed the museum was a ‘neutral zone’ where political or religious messages were not allowed.
On Twitter, the mother of one of the students said the group was approached by a security guard who told them to either take off their beanies or leave the premises. Her daughter allegedly told the guard they were wearing the hats to identify and find one another in the crowd before they were escorted out of the museum.
ACLJ Executive Director Jordan Sekulow said, “This is a clear and egregious abuse of the First Amendment, which protects their right to free speech without government interference, and we are ready to take action,” Sekulow said. “A government institution cannot censor an individual’s speech, much less speech from the inherently Christian pro-life position.”
The Smithsonian Institution receives nearly a billion dollars from the federal government and must comply with the First Amendment as a federal entity.
CNA reported, “Though other visitors wore various kinds of hats, according to attorney Jordan Sekulow of the American Center for Law and Justice, the students were treated differently. Sekulow said the students “were accosted several times and told they would be forced to leave unless they removed their pro-life hats.”
The museum staff mocked the students, called them expletives, and made comments that the museum was a ‘neutral zone’ where they could not express such statements,’ Sekulow said in a January 27 statement. ‘The employee who ultimately forced the students to leave the museum was rubbing his hands together in glee as they exited the building.”
He characterized the treatment of the students as “blatant discrimination” and noted that the Smithsonian is a federal entity.
‘Asking visitors to remove hats and clothing is not in keeping with our policy or protocols,” Alison Wood, the museum’s deputy director of communications, told Fox News. ‘We provided immediate training to prevent a re-occurrence of this kind of incident, and have determined steps to ensure this does not happen again.’
This is the second prominent attack on Christian messaging in the last month. A few weeks ago, a man wearing a “Jesus Saves” shirt was accosted by security at The Mall of America.
In a statement a spokesperson for the Smithsonian said, “We apologize that visitors were asked to remove their hats. Asking visitors to remove hats and clothing is not in keeping with our policy or protocols. We provided immediate training to prevent a reoccurrence of this kind of incident and we have determined steps to ensure this does not happen again.”
Does anyone really think they believe it, or are they just apologizing because they got caught violating their duties?
Ever since the Supreme Court ruled that state legislatures or Congress should draft laws regarding abortion, pro-choicers have become radicalized, using their positions of power to target pro-lifers, and in some cases, encourage violence.
Led by “Catholic” Joe Biden, no institution has been more egregious in its misconduct than the White House, which is supposed to respect the rights of all Americans in the Bill of Rights.
Throughout the summer, Biden sicced federal SWAT troops to target pro-lifers, arresting them on flimsy charges. A jury struck a massive blow against Joe Biden’s intimidation of the pro-life movement, finding pro-life activist Mark Houck innocent of trumped-up federal charges.
Democrats have gone to extreme lengths to attack the pro-life movement. They have even refused to condemn violence against pro-life health centers and refused to support a bill that would require a baby born during a botched abortion to receive medical treatment. Most recently, Vice President Kamala Harris even went as far as deleting the right to life in the Declaration of Independence.
At the time we wrote, “For liberals like Kamala Harris and Joe Biden, the right to life rests solely on whether or not they are in charge of your life. It’s especially pernicious to separate the right to life from the rights to liberty and happiness because the latter two are inherently connected to the first. You cannot be free and cannot be happy if you do not have the right to life.
By removing the right to life when speaking about the Declaration of Independence, Harris accidentally showed that she respects no rights for the rest of us unless defending them gives herself the power of control.”
When you don’t have the facts on your side, the old saying goes, pound the table. What we are seeing from the pro-choice movement is a lot of table pounding, weaponizing institutions, like The Smithsonian or the FBI, and using them as cudgels against Americans with whom they disagree while hoping moderate people keep their heads down.
