By Missouri’s senior senator and attorney general announced new investigations into the Washington University Transgender Center after a whistleblower lifted the lid on what’s happening there to trick kids into surgery and sterilization.
The whistleblower, Jamie Reed, a 42-year-old native of St. Louis, said she worked as a case manager at the Transgender Center from 2018 to 2022.
In her bombshell testimony in The Free Press, Reed writes that she is “a queer woman, and politically to the left of Bernie Sanders. My worldview has deeply shaped my career. I have spent my professional life providing counseling to vulnerable populations: children in foster care, sexual minorities, the poor.
For almost four years, I worked at The Washington University School of Medicine Division of Infectious Diseases with teens and young adults who were HIV positive. Many of them were trans or otherwise gender nonconforming, and I could relate: Through childhood and adolescence, I did a lot of gender questioning myself. I’m now married to a transman, and together we are raising my two biological children from a previous marriage and three foster children we hope to adopt.”
In other words, Reed is hardly someone you’d expect to see as a whistleblower for the Transgender Center, but she continued: “Today I am speaking out. I am doing so knowing how toxic the public conversation is around this highly contentious issue—and the ways that my testimony might be misused. I am doing so knowing that I am putting myself at serious personal and professional risk.
Almost everyone in my life advised me to keep my head down. But I cannot in good conscience do so. Because what is happening to scores of children is far more important than my comfort. And what is happening to them is morally and medically appalling,” she said.
Reed also noted that there’s been a surge in transgenderism among high school girls, which she believes is being driven by a “social contagion.” She wrote, “When I started there were probably 10 such calls a month,” Reed wrote. “When I left there were 50, and about 70 percent of the new patients were girls. Sometimes clusters of girls arrived from the same high school.”
The doctors at the hospital only feed the beast. In her public testimony, she claimed that little is needed to convince the doctors at Washington University that children should begin transitioning. A letter of support from a therapist “who they had to see only once or twice for the green light” is all that’s required. Then the kids could be sent to an endocrinologist for a testosterone prescription.
“’To make it more efficient for the therapists, we offered them a template for how to write a letter in support of transition,’ she wrote.
Reed also slammed the center for downplaying possible negative consequences on both boys and girls — including suicide.
“Being put on powerful doses of testosterone or estrogen — enough to try to trick your body into mimicking the opposite sex — affects the rest of the body,” she wrote. “I doubt that any parent who’s ever consented to give their kid testosterone (a lifelong treatment) knows that they’re also possibly signing their kid up for blood pressure medication, cholesterol medication, and perhaps sleep apnea and diabetes.”
She added, “Our patients were told about some side effects, including sterility. But after working at the center, I came to believe that teenagers are simply not capable of fully grasping what it means to make the decision to become infertile while still a minor,” according to The New York Post.
The National Institutes of Health awarded $569 million in taxpayer-funded research grants to the Washington University School of Medicine in 2022.
Reed also called out the Biden Administration for lying to the public about the sterilization of children in the name of promoting transgender procedures. Dr Rachel Levine, assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, a transgender woman has said, “It’s not like anyone who arrives automatically gets medical treatment.”
Washington University isn’t the only institution of higher learning taking advantage of the transgender movement. The Vanderbilt School of Medicine last year was embroiled in a scandal when one of its leaders, Dr. Shayne Taylor, was caught promoting gender reassignment services to children as “a money maker.”

About Levine’s comments, the whistleblower wrote that she “felt stunned and sickened. It wasn’t true. And I know that from deep first-hand experience. ”
U.S. Senator Josh Hawley and Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey have both announced investigations.

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey also announced Thursday afternoon that his office opened an investigation two weeks ago after hearing from the whistleblower. Bailey, a Republican who took office last month, said he waited to disclose the probe until Reed went public.
Hawley said late Thursday he spoke with Washington University Chancellor Andrew D. Martin, and received the university’s assurance that it will “fully cooperate” with his investigation. Hawley said he also was assured that the whistleblower will be fully protected from retaliation. In a letter to Washington University and St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Hawley directed both institutions to preserve all records “regarding gender-related treatments performed on minors.”
The transgender center opened in 2017, with one arm serving adults older than 18, and the other located at St. Louis Children’s Hospital serving children and adolescents. The center provides gender-affirming care to those who identify as transgender, gender non-conforming, non-binary or genderqueer.”
Washington University released a statement about Reed’s whistleblowing: “We are alarmed by the allegations reported in the article published by The Free Press describing practices and behaviors the author says she witnessed while employed at the university’s Transgender Center. We are taking this matter very seriously and have already begun the process of looking into the situation to ascertain the facts. As always, our highest priority is the health and well-being of our patients. We are committed to providing compassionate, family-centered care to all of our patients and we hold our medical practitioners to the highest professional and ethical standards.”
