By It’s all a big old coincidence, isn’t it? On the day that Hunter Biden received what’s been called a “sweetheart deal” from the Department of Justice, Attorney Merrick Garland just happened to be out of the country.
Garland made an unannounced stop at the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Monday to meet with its top prosecutor, Karim Khan, but the ICC provided no details about the meeting. The United States is not a party to the ICC, but the meeting represents another step in a gradual warming of relations between the two, The Daily Caller reported.
The meeting occurred just a day before the DOJ reached a deal with Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, on charges related to tax evasion and gun crimes. He agreed to plead guilty to two misdemeanors for failing to pay federal taxes in 2017 and 2018, and is entering a pretrial diversion agreement for illegally possessing a gun in 2017.
Garland has not publicly commented on the charges and it is unclear if he plans to do so.
The ICC prosecutor Merrick Garland is meeting with has been determined to investigate American soldiers for unspecificed “war crimes” and received loud condemnation from the Trump administration, which sanctioned the ICC in 2020.
At the time, Pompeo called the ICC “a thoroughly broken and corrupt institution” and said, “We will not tolerate its illegitimate attempts to subject Americans to its jurisdiction.”
The United States never signed the treaty that created the ICC, and is not part of the court system. Neither are other major world powers, including China and Russia. Let’s hope that Garland isn’t over there learning some new tricks about running sham investigations.

House Republicans announced on Tuesday that they would not be deterred by the highly politicized Department of Justice apparently taking a lax approach toward the president’s son.
“House Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) vowed on Tuesday to continue investigating Hunter Biden, despite his “sweetheart plea deal” reached with federal prosecutors, wrote The Hill.
‘These charges against Hunter Biden and sweetheart plea deal have no impact on the Oversight Committee’s investigation,’ Comer said in a statement. “We will not rest until the full extent of President Biden’s involvement in the family’s schemes are revealed.’
“Let’s be clear: the Department of Justice’s charges against President Biden’s son Hunter reveal a two-tiered system of justice,” Comer added. “Hunter Biden is getting away with a slap on the wrist when growing evidence uncovered by the House Oversight Committee reveals the Bidens engaged in a pattern of corruption, influence peddling, and possibly bribery.”

GOP lawmakers and presidential candidates have repeatedly accused federal law enforcement agencies of targeting conservatives in a “two-tiered system of justice.” Throughout the last two years, the DOJ has been targeting pro-life activists by sending SWAT teams to their homes, allegedly tried to spy on Catholic churches, and recently indicted former President Trump on his handling of classified materials.
Joe Biden is also being investigated for his mishandling of classified documents over his 40 years in public office. Still, today’s announced deal with his son leaves many to see that nothing will come of it.
Former President Trump, currently facing 60 charges from both New York and the Department of Justice led by Garland. He took to social media to call out the way federal authorities pick and choose who gets the book thrown at them under Joe Biden.
