By They say out of the mouth of babes comes wisdom and truth. For Nikki Haley, she might want to remember that next time she calls on a child during her next event. A crowd in New Hampshire burst into laughter when Haley tried to use a young girl as a political prop and instead got called out.
“I love your hat,” the former UN Ambassador told the young girl, who was shown wearing her campaign’s merchandise.
“Thank you,” she said. “One of your guys gave it to me for free.”
The former diplomat kept her cool, however. The Daily Caller remarked, “Haley continued to smile while standing on the Hooksett stage despite the girl’s comment implying that her campaign merchandise would not sell for a price.
Haley is making headway in New Hampshire, where she surpassed Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, according to a Washington Post/Monmouth University poll released on Friday, USA Today reported. However, former President Donald Trump remains at 46%, beating Haley, who stands in second place at 18%.”
Haley has become the most recent “Trump slayer” in the eyes of the big money GOP. Conservative heavy hitters on Wall Street have begun lining up behind the former South Carolina governor in recent weeks, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The newspaper writes, “‘There’s a desperate, desperate hunt for anybody but Trump,’ said one of the roughly 30 senior executives The Wall Street Journal spoke with to gauge the mood of the finance set roughly a year ahead of the election.
While Wall Street’s die-hard Democrats are sticking with President Biden, many other financiers have been casting about for an alternative to Trump, the former president they see as too unpredictable among other concerns. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s clash with Walt Disney and stilted public appearances hurt his standing, while Virginia Democrats’ statewide victories this month quashed the idea of Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (and former Carlyle Group co-CEO) jumping into the race.
Former Trump adviser Gary Cohn and UBS banker Mike Santini co-hosted a Haley fundraiser Tuesday at Cohn’s Upper East Side apartment in Manhattan. Roughly 30 guests including Aryeh Bourkoff, the founder of investment bank LionTree, paid $10,000 apiece to attend.”
Haley recently took questions from adults, rather than children planted by her campaign staff, on issues ranging from trade relations and economic policy to abortion, winning praise from people famous for getting excited after being told what they want to hear.
WSJ noted that “other Haley events in New York are set for Dec. 3 and Dec. 4, with the latter being organized by Santini, litigator Eric Levine and others, some of whom have ties to Elliott Management, the $60 billion hedge fund founded by Republican donor Paul Singer. They include Campbell Brown, the Meta Platforms executive and wife of Elliott public affairs chief Dan Senor, and Terry Kassel, a longtime Haley supporter who is Elliott’s human-resources head and Singer’s girlfriend. (Singer himself is still entertaining supporting candidates including Haley, DeSantis and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.)”
Although Haley is widely seen as a more moderate choice compared to her main rivals, Trump and DeSantis, that did not stop the White House from laughably calling her a “MAGA extremist.”
“Nikki Haley is no moderate – she’s an anti-abortion MAGA extremist who wants to rip away women’s freedoms just like she did when she was South Carolina governor,” Biden-Harris 2024 rapid response director Ammar Moussa wrote in a statement on X, formerly Twitter, on Friday. “Now Haley is promising to bring that same fear, anxiety, and dread she forced on South Carolina women to every woman in the country.”
Moussa continued: “Whether it’s Donald Trump, Nikki Haley, or any other MAGA extremist – the entire field is running on a dangerous anti-freedom agenda that the American people have made clear they do not want.”
When all you have is a really, really, really old hammer, everything looks like a nail.
