The Ballot Wars have begun.
Following Democrats in Colorado moving to keep Donald Trump off the ballot in 2024, more “blue states” have joined the effort to try and literally rig the election in an effort to pull the most unpopular president in modern history across the finish lines.
Shortly after the Supreme Court of Colorado made its undemocratic move, California liberals have begun calling for Donald Trump to be blocked from the ballot in the Golden State.
Remember, all of these people are justifying their actions because they claim Trump is a threat to American democracy.
California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis has called on California Secretary of State Shirley Weber to “explore every legal option” to remove former President Donald Trump from the state’s 2024 presidential primary ballot, according to Golden Gate Media.
Kounalakis references the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision that deemed Trump ineligible to appear on the state’s ballot due to his alleged role in inciting the January 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection. The court held that Trump’s actions disqualify him under section three of the Fourteenth Amendment, making him constitutionally prohibited from standing for presidential re-election.
Quoting conservative Justice Neil Gorsuch, the Colorado Supreme Court asserted that “a state’s legitimate interest in protecting the integrity and practical functioning of the political process” permits the exclusion of candidates who are constitutionally barred from assuming office.
In her letter, Kounalakis emphasizes the significance of upholding the rule of law and protecting the democratic foundations of the nation. She argues that California must follow Colorado’s lead and investigate whether Trump’s eligibility for the state’s ballot is compromised by the same constitutional concerns.

As you can see from the letter above, Kounalakis has such a good handle on eligibility for the presidency that she does not even know the age requirements for the office, stating that to be president one must “40 years old and not being an insurrectionist.” However, that ignorance means little to other Democratic leaders hoping to stop Trump, notably “the Big Guy.”
On Wednesday, Joe Biden, who has deployed the Department of Justice to attack much of his political opposition in the name of “defending democracy,” appeared to approve of the move to keep his leading opponent from the ballot.

Biden: I think it’s certainly self-evident… He certainly supported insurrection, no question about it, none, zero. He seems to be doubling down on everything. pic.twitter.com/R1tcZO0kXy

It should be no surprise that Biden would support Colorado’s anti-democratic move. The Daily Caller reports that “the left-wing legal organization behind Colorado’s decision to remove former President Donald Trump from its Republican primary ballot has a direct link to the Biden administration.
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) President and CEO Noah Bookbinder is a member of the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC) tasked with giving real-time advice to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the DHS website says.
Bookbinder is a former trial attorney for the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) public integrity section and former chief counsel for criminal justice for the Senate Judiciary Committee. He repeatedly donated to former President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign during his tenure with the Senate, Federal Elections Commission (FEC) records show.”
For their part, Republicans have taken the news out of Colorado and said that two can play this game.
The New York Post writes that “some Republican officials outraged by the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to boot Donald Trump off the state’s primary ballot have suggested doing the same to President Biden in their states.
Many Republicans peddling the tit-for-tat idea suggested it as a thought experiment to give Democrats a taste of their own medicine, rather than a serious legal undertaking.
“Seeing what happened in Colorado makes me think — except we believe in democracy in Texas — maybe we should take Joe Biden off the ballot in Texas for allowing 8 million people to cross the border since he’s been president, disrupting our state far more than anything anyone else has done in recent history,” Lone Star State Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham Tuesday night.
While condemning the Colorado decision and pointing out that Democrats plan to use their authority to “help Biden skate through this” if GOP picks Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis echoed the same sentiments as Patrick, asking what kind of limiting principle existed for Colorado’s move.
“Could we just say that Biden can’t be on the ballot because he let in 8 million illegals into the country, and violated the Constitution?” he asked Wednesday at a campaign event in Iowa.
DeSantis reacts to Colorado Supreme Court power grab: "There was no trial on any of this. Could we just say that Biden can't be on the ballot because he let in 8 million illegals into the country and violated the Constitution?"

The Colorado court stayed its decision until January 4, the day before the state’s ballot access deadline. The Supreme Court will likely decide the issue once and for all.
