By Earlier this month, authorities apprehended an unauthorized migrant near El Paso, Texas, close to the Mexico border and what he revealed sent chills down their spines. During questioning, the individual claimed affiliation with the terrorist organization Hezbollah and planned to construct an explosive device during a terrorist attack.
He intended to travel to New York City.
Basel Bassel Ebbadi, 22, was caught by the US Border Patrol on March 9 near El Paso, Texas. While in custody, he was asked what he was doing in the US, to which he replied, “I’m going to try to make a bomb,” according to a Border Patrol document exclusively obtained by The New Post.
But Ebbadi later claimed in an interview that he had been trying to flee Lebanon and Hezbollah because he “didn’t want to kill people” and said “once you’re in, you can never get out,” according to internal US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) documents.
Ebbadi said in a sworn interview after his arrest that he had trained with Hezbollah for seven years and served as an active member guarding weapons locations for another four years, the documents show.
Ebbadi’s training focused on “jihad” and killing people “that was not Muslim,” he said.
In January, American officials expressed worries that Hezbollah could launch attacks in the United States in the aftermath of the Hamas terrorist attack against Israel last October and America’s support for its Israeli allies.
“U.S. officials assess that there’s a rising risk Lebanese Hezbollah militants will strike Americans in the Middle East — and even potentially hit inside the United States, four officials familiar with the intelligence told POLITICO.
The Iran-backed militant group would likely target U.S. personnel in the Middle East first, the officials said. And U.S. intelligence agencies are gathering data on Hezbollah that suggest it could be considering attacks on both U.S. troops or diplomatic personnel overseas, two of the officials said.
The chance for an assault on U.S. soil is also growing as tensions in the region escalate, the officials said.
‘Hezbollah could draw on the capability they have … to put people [in] places to do something,” one of the officials said, referring to a potential attack on the U.S. “It is something to be worried about.’ The official, like others in this story, was granted anonymity to talk freely about sensitive intelligence,” wrote the outlet.
Last November, noted The National Review, FBI Director Chris Wray said, “The arrests of individuals in the United States allegedly linked to Hezbollah’s main overseas terrorist arm, and their intelligence-collection and procurement efforts, demonstrate Hezbollah’s interest in long-term contingency planning activities here in the homeland.”
Border Patrol noticed a “growing number of individuals” on the FBI’s terrorist watch list trying to enter the United States through the southern border last year, the Department of Homeland Security said in September.
In March of last year, New Conservative Post reported that the number of individuals caught at the border listed on the terrorist watch list had skyrocketed.
During an interview with “Meet the Press,” Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas was asked by moderator Kristen Welker whether the White House bears responsibility for the overwhelming number of migrants trying to cross the border and the backlog of asylum claims, which President Joe Biden has called a “crisis.”
Jaws nearly hit the floor when he said, “It certainly is a crisis and we don’t bear responsibility for a broken system, and we’re dealing a tremendous amount within that broken system.”
Over 7 million migrants have crossed the border illegally since Biden took office in 2021 and bragged that he had undone Trump’s immigration policies.
In February 2021, wrote Voice of America at the time, the president “signed executive orders to start to dismantle former President Donald Trump’s restrictive immigration policies, including an attempt to reunite families that had been separated at the U.S.-Mexican border.
‘I’m not making new law. I’m eliminating bad policy,’ Biden said while signing the orders.
