Joe Biden has managed to create a picture of what the world looks like in the absence of American leadership.
It’s more chaotic and more dangerous.
During an interview with The Economist, for example, the head of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, “called on NATO allies supplying weapons to Ukraine to end their prohibition on using them to strike military targets in Russia. Mr Stoltenberg’s clear, if unnamed, target was the policy maintained by Joe Biden, America’s president, of controlling what Ukraine can and cannot attack with American-supplied systems.”
Coming on the heels of Volodymyr Zelensky working the telephones to bring NATO troops into direct conflict with Russia, such a move would up the ante in a way that puts nuclear war on the table.
To make matters worse, Biden’s fumbling of the war in Ukraine has emboldened Putin to reach out to other enemies of the United States, further destabilizing the world.
According to six senior U.S. officials, the Biden administration is increasingly alarmed that the growing military alliance between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un could significantly enhance Pyongyang’s nuclear capabilities and escalate tensions in the Asia-Pacific region, NBC News reports.
U.S. officials are also bracing for North Korea to potentially take its most provocative military actions in a decade close to the U.S. presidential election, possibly at Putin’s urging, the officials said.
The timing, they said, could be designed to create turmoil in yet another part of the world as Americans decide whether to send President Joe Biden or former President Donald Trump back to the White House.
“We have no doubt that North Korea will be provocative this year. It’s just a matter of how escalatory it is,” a U.S. intelligence official said.
“2024 is not going to be a good year,” said Victor Cha, senior vice president for Asia and Korea chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. “It’s going to be a bit of a roller coaster.”
The news of North Korea partnering with Russia comes as China instigated a new round of aggressive action toward Taiwan.
The BBC reported that “China has started two days of military exercises around Taiwan, with its military calling them ‘strong punishment’ for the self-ruled island’s ‘separatist acts.’
The drills come three days after the inauguration of President William Lai, who called on China to stop threatening the island and accept the existence of its democracy.
Taiwan’s defense ministry condemned the Chinese drills as ‘irrational provocations.’
Taipei dispatched naval, air, and ground forces to ‘defend the [island’s] sovereignty,’ its defense ministry said.”
The latest provocation from China included something new, according to CNN. “For the first time, the PLA drills also involved China’s Coast Guard, operating in areas around Taiwan’s outlying islands of Kinmen, Matsu, Wuqiu and Dongyin, located just off the southeastern coast of China.
CCTV aired footage on Friday that shows PLA soldiers moving mobile artillery and missile systems into position, though it did not show any live fire.
A total of 19 Chinese warships and seven coast guard vessels were detected near the Taiwan Strait, according to the ministry.
On Friday, the PLA’s Eastern Theater Command said it was continuing the drills on both sides of the Taiwan island chain to ‘test the ability to jointly seize power, launch joint attacks and occupy key areas.'”
Biden has said he’d defend Taiwan from invasion, but he also said that the United States had an “ironclad” alliance with Israel mere days before instituting what effectively was a boycott of America’s oldest ally in the Middle East.
Remember when liberals said that voting for Trump was a vote for World War III?
