By The desperate liberal lawfare being deployed against former President Donald Trump has moved from being an absurd comedy to becoming a farce.
Last week, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan demanded that Attorney General Merrick Garland release documents and information about the Biden Department of Justice’s coordination with New York County District Attorney Alvin Bragg regarding the current “hush money” trial in New York. The trial has been lambasted from all sides of the political spectrum.
Jordan has specifically asked for details about Matthew Colangelo, a former senior DOJ official, who is the lead prosecutor for Bragg.
“Since last year, popularly elected prosecutors—who campaigned for office on the promise of prosecuting President Trump—engaged in an unprecedented abuse of prosecutorial authority: the indictment of a former President of the United States and current leading candidate for that office,” Jordan said. “Given the perception that the Biden DOJ is assisting in Bragg’s politicized prosecution, the Committee is seeking to further understand the scope of Colangelo’s employment and his obsession with investigating President Trump.”
The chairman may want to send another letter soon. According to a bombshell report, Colangelo isn’t a neutral lawyer who left the DOJ for New York. Instead, he’s a partisan plant who’s been paid to work on behalf of the Democratic National Committee.
The New York prosecutor in the New York City hush money case against Donald Trump was previously hired for ‘political consulting’ by the Democratic National Committee, writes The Daily Mail.
The revelations regarding attorney Matthew Colangelo raises concerns over the perceived politicalization of the multiple cases against the former president – and specifically the first case brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office.
Colangelo, according to a Fox News Digital review of Federal Election Commission records, was paid $12,000 by the DNC on January 31, 2018. It was distributed by DNC Services Corp/Democratic National Committee in two separate payments of $6,000 on the same day.
The description listed by the FEC for the purpose of the payment to the attorney is labeled ‘Political Consulting.’
Fox News, which broke the story, reported that “Colangelo joined Bragg’s office in December 2022 after the resignations of Mark Pomerantz and Carey Dunne — prosecutors who were investigating Trump and resigned in protest of Bragg’s initial unwillingness to indict the former president. Colangelo left a senior role at the Biden Justice Department to join Bragg’s team. Bragg afterward brought charges against the former president in April 2023, raising questions among some in the GOP about alleged politicization of the case.
At the time, Colangelo was serving in then-New York Attorney General Eric Scheiderman’s office as the deputy attorney general for social justice, assuming the role from Bragg. Bragg, at the time, was appointed as chief deputy attorney general.
Prior to his work in New York and in the Biden Justice Department, Colangelo worked in the Obama administration, serving in a number of different roles. Colangelo worked in the DOJ’s civil rights division and served as the chief of staff to then-Labor Secretary Tom Perez, who later served as chair of the DNC in 2017.
Perez was DNC chairman at the time Colangelo was paid for ‘political consulting.'”
The obvious politicization of the legal system to target opponents has been so crude that the public now believes that it will not be possible for Donald Trump to receive a fair trial.
The Washington Examiner noted, “Whether you see it as a “witch hunt” or not, a majority of likely voters do not believe that former President Donald Trump will get a “fair” hearing in the “hush money” trial opening in New York on Monday.
Just hours before opening arguments were set to begin in the case featuring former porn star and dancer Stormy Daniels, Rasmussen Reports shared with Secrets its finding that 51% do not believe Trump will get a “fair trial.” Among those, 31% said that a fair trial is “not at all likely.”
Just 42% see a fair trial as likely, according to Rasmussen.
In addition to asking about the chances of getting a fair trial in the coming weeks, Rasmussen also asked voters if they believed that Trump was being persecuted.
By a margin of 54%-40%, most voters agree with Trump that he is the target of a “witch hunt.” The partisan divide was sharp, though the poll weighs Democrats heavier than Republicans: 35% to 33%.”
While the case has helped Trump win over some of his apparent critics, that has not stopped the judge in the hush money case from doing his best to undermine the former president’s campaign for the White House by placing a gag order on the GOP frontrunner.
Judge Juan M. Merchan has threatened to send Trump to Rikers Island, New York City’s largest prison, if he continues to voice his disagreement with the trial.
