During a live interview on CBS’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was interrupted twice by pro-Palestinian protesters who demanded the U.S. stop sending military aid to Israel. The disruptions occurred while Pelosi was discussing President Biden’s potential withdrawal from the presidential race, prompting Colbert to pause and acknowledge the protesters, assuring them that the issue of Israel and Palestine would be addressed after the commercial break.
Colbert responded to the protesters by asking them to remain seated and promising that the next question after the break would cover the topic they were concerned about, noted The Hill.
After the break, the California lawmaker discussed the developments in the Middle East, with Israel accepting the latest Gaza cease-fire deal. Pelosi said she hoped that the Palestinian militant group Hamas would also agree to it.
“Yes, we’ve had a commitment to Israel,” Pelosi said Tuesday. “It’s been in our security interest to do so. Israel was attacked by a terrorist organization. We want the hostages free, but we don’t want children killed in Gaza, and so we have to come up with a solution.”
“Hold on young lady, I can hear you,” he said. “We’re actually at a commercial break, but the subject is on Israel and Palestine, and if you’ll have a seat, we have to go to a commercial break and when we come back, I will ask the next question I had on that subject, if you will listen.”

After the commercial break, Pelosi began by telling the liberal audience that “war has no role in civilized society. We have to learn more about trust and peace and learning about each other, rather than, rather than to have a conflict resolve by war.”
That answer went over like a lead balloon with the pro-Hamas crowd, however, who threw the former Speaker of the House when they again began yelling at her.
“As you can see, the protest is still going on,” Colbert remarked, motioning toward the audience. “Some people find that answer unsatisfying because they believe the United States—hold on a moment. Would you like to respond to their concerns?”
Pelosi said while “Israel has a right to defend itself,” a two-state solution should be implemented to end the war. She added that Palestinians should have “their own secure state,” but protesters continued to shout, according to The Daily Caller.
“Please don’t interrupt my guest,” Colbert said. “So, Madame Secretary — Madame Speaker — we’re a live show, so we have to go at this point. Please come again.”
Pelosi signed off by saying it is “great to be in Chicago.” The DNC began Monday at the United Center in Chicago and will last until Thursday.
Despite stepping down from her leadership role last year, Pelosi has remained one of the top power brokers in the Democratic Party. In July, she turned on Joe Biden, making him a laughingstock and forcing him to give up the nomination after she threatened to have him removed from office.
