Trump Thanks Kamala Harris For Picking Tim Walz

Kamala Harris may have given Donald Trump and the Republicans a major gift. Over the past few weeks, the GOP has become worried that the election was slipping through their fingertips. The polls have tightened and the former president’s commanding lead in battleground states had begun to shrink as Kamala Harris replaced Joe Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket.

To make matters worse, over the past few weeks it appeared that Harris would pick the popular governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, a move that would almost certainly have sealed the deal for Harris in the most important state in this year’s Electoral College.

Instead of going for it, however, the vice president cowered before what’s been labeled the pro-Hamas wing of the Democratic Party. Rather than pick a moderate, Jewish governor that would help her win, Harris has chosen leftwing Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.

Trump couldn’t be happier, writes The Daily Caller.

“THANK YOU!” Trump wrote in all capital letters.

The Trump campaign blasted Walz as a “West Coast wannabe,” harking back to the GOP nominee’s branding of Harris as a “San Francisco liberal.”

“It’s no surprise that San Francisco Liberal Kamala Harris wants West Coast wannabe Tim Walz as her running-mate — Walz has spent his governorship trying to reshape Minnesota in the image of the Golden State. While Walz pretends to support Americans in the Heartland, when the cameras are off, he believes that rural America is ‘mostly cows and rocks’. From proposing his own carbon-free agenda, to suggesting stricter emission standards for gas-powered cars, and embracing policies to allow convicted felons to vote, Walz is obsessed with spreading California’s dangerously liberal agenda far and wide. If Walz won’t tell voters the truth, we will: just like Kamala Harris, Tim Walz is a dangerously liberal extremist, and the Harris-Walz California dream is every American’s nightmare,” Trump Campaign Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt shared in a statement.

The Trump campaign immediately released a video ad targeting Walz as “another left-wing extremist.” The ad argued that Walz would be “a rubber stamp” for Kamala Harris.

In the end, the Democrats proved Newt Gingrich right. Despite Shapiro being the obvious choice, the former Speaker said, “Well look, they have a big problem. I think, by the way, this is why in the end Harris will not be able to pick Governor Shapiro of Pennsylvania,” Gingrich said. “I think to walk into that convention with a Jewish governor as her vice presidential candidate would cause such a level of tension in places like Michigan that it would just be a wild scene. Sort of resemble Union Station. They have a real problem.”

“The problem is more and more of their party’s anti-Semitic, more and more of their party sides with terrorism. More and more of their party is deeply hostile, not just to Israel, they are deeply hostile to the United States,” Gingrich said.

“And I think this is an underlying split in their party, which will be interesting to see how they try to write a platform compared to what the Republicans achieved in Milwaukee,” Gingrich continued. “Because how do they bring their radical left-wing and what’s left of the old pro-Israel wing. How do they get something on that into the platform? I think they’ll have a very hard time.”

Over the past few days, Democrats have watched in horror at the slew of antisemitic attacks against Shapiro came from their own side of the aisle.

The Hill noted that “Jewish Democrats on Capitol Hill are up in arms over the liberal attacks on Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D), saying the potential vice presidential pick has been unfairly maligned merely because he’s the leading Jewish figure on Vice President Harris’s shortlist.

A number of voices on the far left have gone after Shapiro in recent weeks over his position on the Israel-Hamas War, accusing the 51-year-old governor of blindly supporting Israel’s aggressive military campaign at the expense of the tens of thousands of Palestinians who have been killed in the conflict. Some have labeled him ‘Genocide Josh.’

‘Josh’s position on Israel is almost identical to everybody else, but he’s being held to a different standard. So you have to ask yourself why,’ Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) said.

Moskowitz said his party would never tolerate similar attacks if the potential candidate was, for example, Black, gay or Latino, in which case ‘we would call that out and it would be deafening.’”

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee and another prominent Jewish lawmaker, told The Hill that the critics dissecting Shapiro’s resume were only targeting him because he’s Jewish.

“It has been very noticeable that of all of the people that she is carefully considering, that the only Jewish candidate is getting excruciating, very specific scrutiny, particularly around his positions on Israel,” Wasserman Schultz said, a dynamic she called “deeply concerning.”

Walz came to prominence—some might say infamy—as he led Minnesota through the rioting of 2020. Many liberal commentators have been beating around the bush in celebrating the pick of Walz over Shapiro, praising the choice as not alienating the base without going into why the popular, liberal, Jewish governor in a vital swing state might alienate the base in the first place.

Liberal CNN commentator Van Jones said that the Walz pick reveals that antisemitism has become “marbled” into the Democratic Party at this point.
