Bill Clinton Says Laken Riley Would Be Alive If Vetting System In Place

This was not supposed to be how it went. Last week, the Harris campaign announced that it was “unleashing the Big Dog—Bill Clinton was hitting the campaign trail to rally rural voters skeptical of the vice president.

During a speech on Sunday, however, the former president appeared to do more damage than good. Clinton claimed that the murder of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley could have been prevented if the suspected killer, an undocumented immigrant, had been properly vetted.

That’s not what you want to say when you’re stumping for the current “border czar.”

Former President Bill Clinton admitted Sunday at a Harris-Walz event that if the current administration properly vetted migrants pouring over the border, the murder of an American girl likely wouldn’t have happened, according to The Daily Caller.

Talk about a terrible look for Vice President Kamala Harris. Clinton, campaigning on her behalf in Fort Valley, Georgia, accidentally drew attention to one of the biggest flaws of her candidacy: her negligence and incompetence as Joe Biden’s Border Czar. Rocking the Harris-Walz camo hat, the former Democratic president gave the Trump campaign what might be their most effective ad of the entire election season.

“You had a case in Georgia not very long ago. They made an ad about a young woman who had been killed by an immigrant,” Clinton said, appearing to reference the murder of 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley. “Yeah, well, if they had all been properly vetted, that probably wouldn’t have happened.”

Clinton went on to suggest that immigrants should be properly vetted so they can do jobs Americans won’t and to keep birth rates high. Perhaps he knew he messed up, and quickly tried to pivot to how immigration is a net good for the country. Or perhaps contrary to his party, Clinton believes open border policy has been a disaster for American society, and that his slip-up captures how he actually feels about the issue. Either way, damage was done.

Immigration has become a significant weak spot for Harris. After years of advocating for amnesty and taking minimal action to strengthen border security, Democrats in closely contested races—whether for the presidency, Congress, or local offices—are now stressing their commitment to stricter border measures. Fox News reports that this shift comes as Americans nationwide are feeling the strain on local infrastructure due to the influx of individuals seeking refuge in the United States.

As the election approaches, Republicans have implemented measures to prevent non-citizens from voting, aiming to secure the election against potential fraud. However, these efforts have faced opposition from the Biden administration.

In Virginia, for example, the Department of Justice has sued Governor Glenn Youngkin for removing foreign voters from the rolls, writes ABC News.

“The Justice Department filed suit against Virginia on Friday over a statewide program aimed at removing voters from its election rolls in the lead-up to the 2024 election if DMV records don’t indicate United States citizenship.

The Department said it filed the lawsuit based on a federal law that prohibits purges from rolls within the 90-day period leading up to an election.

‘As the National Voter Registration Act mandates, officials across the country should take heed of the law’s crystal clear and unequivocal restrictions on systematic list maintenance efforts that fall within 90 days of an election,’ said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division.

The system, implemented via executive order by Gov. Glenn Youngkin, has already faced lawsuits from several immigration rights groups.”

The DOJ has also filed a similar lawsuit against Alabama for a similar measure keeping foreign citizens off the voter rolls.
