By As Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attended Taylor Swift’s fifth Eras Tour concert at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, chaos erupted in Montreal. A pro-Palestinian protest spiraled into violent riots, leaving behind shattered storefronts, burned vehicles, and a profoundly unsettled community.
The target of the riot, as seemingly always these days in cities controlled by liberals, were Jews. Protesters ignited an effigy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Police faced difficulty controlling the escalating violence, with makeshift explosives and metal objects being thrown at them. By nightfall, rioters had shattered windows near St-Urbain Street and René-Lévesque Boulevard, while two vehicles were set ablaze.
The Daily Mail writes that the riots began at around 4:30pm at Émilie-Gamelin Parc downtown as darkness fell in the Canadian city.
But the protests quickly turned violent as protestors hurled small explosive devices and pieces of metal were thrown at police officers.
Others set about committing acts of wanton vandalism smashing up store fronts using hammers and planks of wood while also cars ablaze.
At one point protesters marched through the city with many carrying Palestinian flags and banners while releasing red smoke bombs into the crowd to create a sense of anarchy and chaos.

Montreal’s Jewish community expressed deep concern over their safety, comparing the scenes to historic antisemitic attacks. “Our community no longer feels safe,” said one local leader.
Montreal Liberal MP Anthony Housefather called for stricter law enforcement, stating on social media: “Canada’s streets need to be safe. Law and order needs to apply. I have asked our Public Safety Minister to convene a meeting with his provincial counterparts to focus on how the federal and provincial governments can work together to help cities deal with hate on their streets.”

The unrest occurred the same day Trudeau announced that he would backstab on of Canada’s allies and arrest Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu for alleged war crimes, siding with Iran and in opposition to the United States. This stance has sparked backlash from Jewish and pro-Israel groups and likely emboldened the Hamas supporters who began attacking Montreal.
Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre criticized Trudeau’s absence, remarking, “Trudeau fiddles while Montreal burns.” Many Canadians expressed frustration over Trudeau attending a concert instead of addressing the violence in one of the country’s largest cities.
Montreal police reported three arrests for assaulting officers but released no further details. Quebec Premier François Legault and Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante have not yet made public statements about the riots.
The response to the Montreal unrest starkly contrasts with the government’s approach to the 2022 Freedom Convoy protests, where demonstrators faced severe measures under the Emergencies Act. Critics argue that the leniency shown during Friday’s riots suggests a troubling double standard.
