Prominent ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith has taken aim at the Democratic Party, accusing them of spreading false information regarding the events of January 6, 2021. On a recent episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show, the outspoken commentator voiced his frustrations following revelations from a report by Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz.
The report revealed that the FBI had 26 confidential human sources present during the Capitol riot, but only three were specifically assigned to monitor the scene. According to Horowitz, these sources were not authorized to encourage illegal actions or trespass in restricted areas. Additionally, there was no evidence of undercover FBI employees being among the protesters or inside the Capitol itself.
These findings directly challenge claims made by some Democratic leaders and media outlets, which had suggested a greater level of FBI involvement in the events of that day. Smith, known for his candid opinions, criticized what he sees as a recurring pattern of misinformation from the Democratic Party.
“I’m really, really sick and tired of every time I turn around, I’m finding something else that the Democrats have lied about or downplayed or misrepresented along the way,” Smith said during his show. He went on to criticize the party for portraying Republicans as the sole perpetrators of dishonesty and corruption, only to face similar accusations themselves.
Smith’s remarks reflect a broader frustration with the political climate. “We can argue policies. We can argue politics all day long. But the Democrats worked really, really diligently to make the case that the right had a monopoly on insidious, evil tendencies… and every time they made those accusations, we turn around and find out that at least some of them are guilty of the same,” he added.
In a particularly striking comment, Smith suggested that these revelations have inadvertently lent credibility to former President Donald Trump, at least in comparison to Democratic leaders. “They’ve actually made Donald Trump look like he was right instead of them,” Smith said, emphasizing his disappointment with the state of politics as a whole.
Smith’s critique comes in the wake of ESPN’s updated policy, introduced in July, discouraging its talent from wading into political debates, according to The Daily Caller. Despite this, Smith has not shied away from addressing what he views as dishonesty and growing polarization in the political arena.
As one of the most recognizable voices in sports media, Smith’s foray into political commentary highlights a sentiment shared by many Americans: frustration with both parties. Whether his criticisms will inspire meaningful discussion or deepen existing divisions remains uncertain, but Smith’s willingness to address the issue is a reminder of the widespread discontent in today’s political landscape.
Biden has come under fire for corruption as of late. The Associated Press noted recently that “only about 2 in 10 Americans approve of President Joe Biden’s decision to pardon his son Hunter after earlier promising he would do no such thing, according to a poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.
That displeasure tracks with the bipartisan uproar in Washington that ignited over the president’s about-face. The survey found that a relatively small share of Americans “strongly” or “somewhat” approve of the pardon, which came after the younger Biden was convicted on gun and tax charges. About half said they “strongly” or “somewhat” disapprove, and about 2 in 10 neither approve nor disapprove.
The Democratic president had said repeatedly that he would not use his pardon power for the benefit of his family, and the White House continued to insist, even after Republican Donald Trump’s election win in November, that Biden’s position had not changed — until it suddenly did.”
