In the aftermath of a horrific attack in New Orleans that left at least ten people dead and dozens more injured, Republican Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana made comments that had some people raising their eyebrows. The senator said he will be demanding transparency and swift action from federal authorities. The tragic event occurred early Wednesday when 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar allegedly drove a Ford pickup truck into a crowd before being fatally shot by police.

During an interview on Special Report with guest host Aishah Hasnie, Kennedy continued to express a deep mix of anger and grief, wrote The Daily Caller. “There’s a fine line between anger and grief, and I’m straddling that line right now,” he said. “If you don’t believe in objective evil, all you need to do is walk a few yards from here. We still have bodies on the ground.”

Kennedy emphasized his commitment to supporting both the victims and the ongoing investigation. “I’m here for two reasons: One, these are my people, these are my people’s guests. Number two, I don’t want to hear from anybody in the federal government that they don’t have the resources.”

The senator called on federal agencies, including the FBI, Justice Department, and Department of Homeland Security, to act with urgency and transparency. “I want to give them a reasonable period of time,” Kennedy said. “But they need to saddle up and ride. We need to find out what happened here.”

As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Kennedy voiced his skepticism about the FBI’s willingness to fully cooperate with lawmakers, The Daily Caller continued. “You just never know what they’re not telling us,” he said. “But I know how to probe very hard to get the information. I’m not interested in placing blame. I just want to catch those responsible.”

When asked whether other cities might face similar threats, Kennedy declined to provide specifics. “I can’t answer that. I can, but I won’t.”

The senator also referenced past security failures, including the July assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania. “I sat there and watched a 21-year-old kid outsmart the entire Secret Service of the United States and almost kill a former president,” Kennedy said. “We still don’t have all the answers from that, and that’s not going to happen this time.”

Over the summer,  Thomas Matthew Crooks, armed with an AR-style rifle, opened fire at the former president while he was addressing a crowd in Butler, Pennsylvania. Last August, a whistleblower revealed the former president’s protective detail had been cut in order to send more agents to serve Jill Biden.

This attack in New Orleans comes amid heightened national security concerns. President Joe Biden confirmed that authorities are also investigating an explosion in Las Vegas involving a Tesla Cybertruck parked outside the Trump International Hotel, which was purportedly done by a radical Democrat who hates Trump.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk later stated on social media that the explosion was caused by an improvised bomb.

Senator Kennedy underscored the importance of decisive federal action. “We owe it to the victims, their families, and every American to get this right,” he concluded.
