Just three days after a police officer was wounded outside an ICE detention center near Fort Worth, federal law enforcement in South Texas faced another targeted assault—this time by a gunman armed with a rifle and tactical gear who opened fire on a U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility early Monday morning.

The attack occurred around 8 a.m. at the Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector Annex in McAllen. According to officials, the assailant—whose name has not yet been released—began shooting at Border Patrol agents as they arrived for duty. No agents were injured, but the confrontation prompted an immediate and lethal response. The gunman was fatally shot during the exchange with law enforcement.

Local authorities have not confirmed initial reports that a McAllen police officer may have also been injured in the incident. The entrance to the facility bore visible signs of the assault, with bullet holes puncturing the glass doors. A vehicle tied to the suspect was found nearby, marked with the Latin phrase “Cordis Die”—translated loosely as “with the heart of God,” according to The New York Post.

The city of McAllen temporarily shut down its international airport in the wake of the shooting, halting flights and restricting terminal access. Officials cited security concerns and stated that normal operations would resume only once the area was secured.

The motive for the attack remains under investigation, and officials have released few details about the shooter’s background or intent. But the incident comes amid growing concerns about politically motivated violence targeting immigration infrastructure.

On the night of July 4, just north of Fort Worth, an officer with the Alvarado Police Department was shot outside the Prairieland Detention Center—a federal facility used to hold individuals awaiting deportation. Responding to reports of a suspicious person, officers approached an individual believed to be armed, wrote Fox News. In the ensuing chaos, one officer was struck in the neck by gunfire allegedly from others on the scene. He survived. Multiple suspects were apprehended, though their identities and motives remain unclear.

Federal authorities said the Independence Day incident involved the slashing of vehicle tires and damage to surveillance equipment. The Department of Homeland Security has acknowledged a group of 15 individuals vandalized the facility but has not confirmed whether the shooting was coordinated with the property damage.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said the Justice Department is monitoring both the McAllen and Johnson County cases. “The department has zero tolerance for assaults on federal officers or property,” Blanche stated on social media, pledging accountability.

The twin attacks come at a time when Democrats have been calling for more violence against the Trump administration. At town halls and in private meetings, lawmakers report that angry liberal voters are urging them to abandon traditional norms — and in some cases, embrace civil disobedience, violence, or even personal harm to resist President Trump’s agenda.

Studies have shown that the left has been growing more and more violent over the past few years.

Axios interviewed more than two dozen House Democrats, many of whom spoke anonymously, revealing a troubling portrait of escalating expectations. One member described constituents saying “civility isn’t working” and that lawmakers must prepare for “violence … to fight to protect our democracy.” Another recounted being told, “what we really need to do is be willing to get shot” at federal immigration facilities.

Many lawmakers told the outlet that these voters tend to be white, well-educated and live in upscale suburban or urban neighborhoods.

“What I have seen is a demand that we get ourselves arrested intentionally or allow ourselves to be victims of violence, and … a lot of times that’s coming from economically very secure white people,” said one House Democrat.

The years pretending that Donald Trump was a fascist are coming back to haunt the Democratic Party. “The expectations aren’t just unreal. They’re dangerous.”

Now, police officers are paying the price.
