AOC Wastes Floor Time To Mischaracterize And Attack Charlie Kirk

At some point you just have to conclude that they lack any sort of decency. In an absurd speech that stretched nearly three minutes, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from New York, tore into the late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, branding him “ignorant” and “uneducated” as she read his past remarks into the record while opposing a Republican resolution honoring his legacy. The measure, which passed narrowly along party lines, sought to recognize Kirk as a “courageous American patriot” who “lived out his faith with conviction, courage, and compassion.” Ocasio-Cortez joined 57 Democrats in voting no.

She warned that such a tribute would inflict “great pain” on Americans scarred by “segregation, Jim Crow and the legacy of bigotry.” Then, directly challenging the resolution’s portrayal, she told colleagues: “We should be clear about who Charlie Kirk was. A man who believed that the Civil Right Act that granted black Americans the right to vote was a mistake. Who after the violent attack on Paul Pelosi said, ‘some amazing patriot’ should bail out his brutal assailant and accused Jews of controlling ‘not just the colleges, it’s the nonprofits, it’s the movies, it’s Hollywood, it’s all of it.’ His rhetoric and beliefs were ignorant, uneducated and sought to disenfranchise millions of Americans far from ‘working tirelessly to promote unity’ asserted by the majority in this resolution.” Her remarks drew applause from Democrats and jeers from Republicans.

You can see for yourself how ridiculous her mischaracterization of Charlie Kirk’s beliefs really was:

Kirk was killed earlier this year in an assassination carried out by a left-wing assailant with ties to transgender activism, a fact that has fueled polarized tributes across the country.

Rather than engage with what Kirk said, liberals often mischaracterize quotations knowing that their supporters are much more interested in “fighting racism” in their imaginations than being truthful in real life. The New York Times, for example, recently issued a correction after wrongly attributing to him an anti-Jewish remark. Former Washington Post columnist Karen Attiah lost her job after publishing a fabricated quote alleging that Kirk said “black women do not have the brain processing power to be taken seriously.” His actual July 2023 podcast comments, noted The Daily Caller, though controversial, targeted specific figures—Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, Michelle Obama, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), and ex-MSNBC host Joy Reid—who themselves tied their achievements to affirmative action.

“If we would have said three weeks ago […] that Joy Reid and Michelle Obama and Sheila Jackson Lee and Ketanji Brown Jackson were affirmative-action picks, we would have been called racist. But now they’re comin’ out and they’re saying it for us! They’re comin’ out and they’re saying, ‘I’m only here because of affirmative action.’ Yeah, we know. You do not have the brain processing power to otherwise be taken really seriously,” Kirk said.

The resolution’s passage added another chapter to the insane liberal response to the killing of a conservative in front of all to see. 58 Democrats couldn’t vote yes on a bill condemning the political assassination of Charlie Kirk.

Rather than simply say it’s a sad event, they must turn everything into a political battle while demanding “unity.”
