A University of Colorado Boulder student affiliated with Turning Point USA was attacked with a hockey stick last week, days after far-left groups connected to Antifa circulated flyers branding him a neo-Nazi and soliciting information on his whereabouts.
Nineteen-year-old Nathaniel Ellis, an engineering student and secretary of CU’s TPUSA chapter, said he was struck from behind around 7 p.m. on October 23 near 27th Way and Baseline Road. “He came up behind me and broke a hockey stick over my head and yelled something to the effect of ‘f— you, fascist,’” Ellis told The Daily Camera. He said the attacker, dressed in black and wearing a ski mask, had trailed him for about ten minutes while he biked home from the Ekeley Sciences Building.
Police confirmed they are searching for the suspect, described as wearing all black—clothing typical of antifa demonstrators. Officers canvassed the area but found no one matching the description. The following day, the department released daylight photos of a possible person of interest and urged residents to submit tips.
Democrats have insisted that Antifa does not exist.
Authorities acknowledged that Ellis had recently been featured in a flyer and social media posts labeling him a white supremacist. “Whether these played a role in the reported assault is part of the investigation, and police are not commenting further on this finding,” the department said in a statement.
The flyer, titled “Nazi Activist On Campus,” displayed Ellis’s photo and accused him of ties to extremist groups like Patriot Front. It described his TPUSA work as “Fascist Extracurricular Activities” and urged readers: “Send us info about Patriot Front or Nathan Ellis, including where he lives or works.” One version of the image even listed his Durango home address, noted The Washington Examiner.
The alert was produced by Colorado Springs Anti-Fascists and Front Range Anti-Fascists, affiliates of the Torch Network, a nationwide antifa coalition. Journalist Andy Ngo noted that “the antifa cells intentionally placed their insignia on the call to political violence.”
Campus organizations on the left quickly amplified the post. Boulder Students for a Democratic Society, a communist-aligned student group, promoted the flyer, generating more than 600 shares. Following the assault, Durango Anarchists posted a celebratory message featuring hockey stick emojis and the taunt, “[F*** around and find out], mawf***a!”
Ellis later identified himself publicly as the victim in interviews with The CU Independent and The Daily Camera. He linked the attack to a broader pattern of violence against conservatives, invoking the September assassination of TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. “Last night, Antifa physically attacked me for my America first values and actions. The same people that killed Charlie Kirk,” Ellis said. “Like Mr. Kirk, I will not let threats dissuade me from the TPUSA involvement or beliefs.”

CU Boulder’s TPUSA chapter has since listed openings for secretary and treasurer positions, though it remains unclear if Ellis will continue serving. Police have not said whether investigators are probing the antifa groups that circulated the flyer or their online amplifiers. The case remains open, with authorities appealing to the public for help identifying the assailant.
The “hit” comes as one of the most prominent leftwing podcasters, who some believe will sway the 2028 Democratic primary, has warned Democratic leaders that they will become targets themselves if they don’t get on board with political violence.
