Former Fox News star and conservative commentator Bill O’Reilly offered a characteristically defiant—and reassuring—health update this week from a New York City medical facility, signaling that his brief absence from the airwaves is likely nearing its end.

The 76-year-old broadcaster disclosed earlier in the week that he was dealing with what he described only as a “malady,” prompting a pause in production of his weekday program No Spin News and the cancellation of a scheduled appearance on CUOMO on NewsNation. The announcement immediately drew attention from supporters accustomed to O’Reilly’s near-daily presence and unapologetically combative tone, according to The Daily Caller.

In a message posted Tuesday to his website, O’Reilly framed the situation with trademark bravado. “Hey No Spin Nation. Sorry I am dealing with a malady. We have great doctors so we’ll fight the good fight. Doesn’t affect my fingers so will update you on me, news cycle, and anything major,” he wrote, assuring followers that his commentary—and his keyboard—remained fully operational.

By Friday, O’Reilly followed up with a more detailed and humor-laced update from inside the medical facility itself, describing his condition as “okay and recovering from stomach stuff.” He emphasized his gratitude for the volume of messages he received, adding: “Amazing good wishes have arrived here in New York City, and it’s hard to describe my gratitude. I am planning a jail break out of the medical facility where there are more than a few Concierge Members. That’s major. If USA Today finds me, I’m toast. Working on the first broadcast back because there’s nothing else to do here except watch hysterical local TV news coverage about snow generated by global warming.”

O’Reilly’s career has spanned decades in broadcast journalism. He gained national prominence as the host of Fox News’ The O’Reilly Factor, which dominated cable news ratings for much of its 20-year run from 1996 until his departure in April 2017.

Since leaving Fox News, O’Reilly has built an independent media presence through his website, BillOReilly.com, where he offers premium content, including his No Spin News program available on platforms such as Amazon FireTV, Apple TV, and Roku. He also maintains a subscription model that provides ad-free streaming, exclusive books, and community features for members.

In 2022, O’Reilly discussed “life after cancellation” following a sexual harrassment lawsuit that he denied and claimed was part of a hit piece by The New York Times. “I don’t really see myself as a victim. That’s No. 1,” he told Breitbart News. He bears no grudges against Fox News, saying “they lived up to their contractual obligations” to him.

In hindsight, he described leaving the network as “one of the best things that happened in my life” because it allowed him to become his own boss.

“I don’t have to answer to anyone at all about anything. That was such a release after 45 years in corporate America — not that corporate America was terrible to me,” he said. “I amassed a lot of money and became very famous so I can’t be whining about it.”

“The loons who spent millions of dollars trying to destroy me, we know who they are. There will be reckoning but it will be on my time.”

Throughout his career, O’Reilly has remained a prominent voice in conservative commentary and has cultivated a longstanding relationship with President Donald Trump. The two were seen together publicly as recently as September 11, 2025, when they attended a New York Yankees game. Fans and observers have responded positively to his updates, with many expressing relief at the signs of improvement and anticipation for his return to the airwaves. As O’Reilly continues his recovery, his blend of sharp analysis and signature wit appears poised to resume shortly.

The note concluded with a promise of another update on Sunday, widely read as a signal that his return to broadcasting is imminent.
