President Donald Trump has told confidants that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is “begging” for a job in the Trump administration, according to a report from Axios.

Trump specifically told one confidant that DeSantis sought consideration for attorney general. “Ron was begging me to be AG,” Trump said, according to the individual, who relayed the remark to the outlet.

The discussions reportedly followed a private lunch between Trump and DeSantis at Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami a week ago Sunday. Multiple sources briefed on the meeting described a broader conversation about DeSantis’ post-governorship future.

Said another source: “There was a conversation at that lunch. I don’t think AG is real. But he’s gonna be looking for work and Trump likes him.”

Santis has also allegedly expressed interest in serving as secretary of defense or potentially being considered for a future vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court.

“DeSantis is 100% not interested in the AG job, but he would be interested in two things: War secretary or Supreme Court, which would be his dream job,” according to Axios.

That source added that DeSantis and Clarence Thomas “almost have a father-son relationship and would be a hell of a legacy for Trump.”

DeSantis, who is term-limited as Florida governor, is set to leave office in January 2027 and has frequently pointed to Thomas as a model for originalist jurisprudence.

He has also defended the Supreme Court Justice from leftwing attacks.

No formal decisions or nominations have been announced. Any potential Supreme Court appointment would depend on a vacancy, while a Defense Department role would hinge on changes in current leadership.
