It’s a question that some are beginning to ask: Why wasn’t RFK Jr. put in charge or the national parks or something? The man clearly has an obsession with critters.

The Secretary of Health and Human Services posted a video Tuesday showing himself grabbing a pair of black racer snakes that were mating on a patio at a beachfront property owned by Mehmet Oz, the administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Kennedy, the secretary of Health and Human Services, shared the footage on Twitter, where he is seen trying to capture the snakes with his bare hands while his wife, actress Cheryl Hines, watches with growing alarm.

“Cheryl cheerleads the removal of a pair of Black Racers from Dr Oz’s patio,” Kennedy wrote in the caption.

In the video, Hines repeatedly asks, “Bobby, why?” as Kennedy corners the snakes on the patio. After he grabs the wriggling pair, an off-camera voice says, “They were having sex. So what were they?”

Kennedy then lifts the snakes toward the camera, smiling as they twist in his grip. One of the snakes appears to bite his finger.

“Oh my God,” Hines says.

“You’re nuts,” the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” actress tells him.

“Are they biting?” Kennedy is asked.

“Yeah,” he replies.

As Kennedy carries the snakes closer to the camera, Hines continues pleading with him to release them.

“Honey, honey, let them go! Oh my God. Bobby, please!” she says.

The episode is the latest unusual animal encounter involving Kennedy, whose history with wildlife has drawn periodic public attention, explained The Hill.

In 2012, his daughter Kick Kennedy recalled in a magazine interview that her father once cut off the head of a beached whale in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, when she was a child. Kennedy said in 2024 that the National Marine Fisheries Service had opened an investigation into the decades-old incident.

That same year, The New Yorker published a 2014 photograph of Kennedy with a dead bear, which he said he later left in New York City’s Central Park. Earlier this month, Kennedy also shared an image of himself holding a live bird after what he described as a rescue at Dulles Airport.

Maybe the nephew of President Kennedy is just trying to become The Most Interesting Man In The World.

Even as a boy he had a way of weirding people out with his fascination for animals.
