The FBI says it stopped what could have been a nightmare scenario on the White House lawn.
Federal authorities announced Tuesday that the FBI and its law enforcement partners disrupted an alleged plot targeting the UFC Freedom 250 event, a high-profile fight night held on the White House South Lawn as part of President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday weekend celebrations.
Five people are now in custody, according to authorities, after investigators uncovered what they describe as a multi-state operation involving encrypted messages, explosive drones, a planned sniper attack, and an alleged attempt to storm the White House gates.
According to investigators, the alleged network included 23 individuals who communicated through Signal, the encrypted messaging app. Those conversations reportedly included discussion of attacking the event and preparing for violence around one of the most unusual — and most visible — public gatherings ever held on White House grounds.

Authorities said suspects discussed using drones carrying explosives to strike buildings near the gathering. The goal, according to investigators, was to force a mass evacuation and push crowds toward a pre-positioned sniper team. A second phase reportedly involved storming the White House gates.
That is not protest. That is an alleged domestic terror plot.
The FBI first picked up signs of the threat on June 10. Working with law enforcement partners, agents developed probable cause that led to an initial arrest in Cincinnati, Ohio. Some of those tied to the alleged plot had reportedly planned to travel to the Fredericksburg, Virginia, area on June 12 or 13 to prepare.
One suspect reportedly described the intended targets to investigators as “capitalist elites,” “billionaires,” or politicians who had received donations from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, noted Fox News.
The investigation stretched across at least 12 FBI field offices and multiple states, a sign of how quickly the case expanded in the days before the event.
The UFC Freedom 250 event took place June 14. Fourteen fighters competed inside a wire-mesh cage on the South Lawn before an estimated crowd of 4,300 people, including roughly 1,200 active-duty service members.
FBI Director Kash Patel praised the agents and partner agencies involved, saying the alleged attack was stopped before it could be carried out.
“Thanks to the rapid action of this FBI, our partners, and the Department of Justice in a multi-state operation, multiple individuals are now in custody and allegedly planned attacks were stopped cold.”
Patel said the case reflected both the seriousness of the threat and the readiness of federal law enforcement to respond to dangers at major public events.

“While the result represented the best of investigative work, it was also nothing out of the ordinary for this law enforcement team. We are built to detect, respond to, and bring to justice those who threaten the lives of American citizens — particularly during large gatherings like the historic UFC 250 fight. That’s exactly what we did here.”
He added that the investigation is still ongoing.
“I want to thank our great agents and partners, this work remains ongoing, and we will continue to update the public as permitted.”
The alleged plot comes amid a growing number of security concerns involving President Trump, senior administration officials, and high-profile political events, including a recent attack at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner by a leftwing gunman.
