Donald Trump received another unexpected endorsement from a Hollywood star and he hopes it may lead to more. Actor and singer Zachary Levi sent a bold message to conservative-leaning figures in Hollywood on Monday morning, say it was “now or never” for them to publicly express their political views and back the former president.
Levi originally backed Robert Kennedy Jr., but he put his support behind Trump after Kennedy dropped out of the race.
Levi’s comments come in response to “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg, who dismissed claims that Hollywood is overwhelmingly liberal, citing actors Jon Voight and Dennis Quaid as examples of conservative voices in the industry, writes Variety.
Levi, who came to fame for his roles in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and his starring role in “Shazam!,” took to Instagram to argue that many “closeted Trump voters” are afraid of facing professional consequences if they openly declare their political affiliations. However, he emphasized that the entertainment industry is facing numerous challenges, including the aftermath of the pandemic and ongoing strikes, which have already eroded its stability.
“There’s plenty of people in my industry, in Hollywood, that are terrified to publicly say that they would vote for Donald Trump or be conservative in any way,” Levi said. “But like I said, y’all, our industry gonna be gone, it already is… my cry to all of you out there, you closeted conservatives, closeted Trump voters, it’s now or never.”
Levi addressed Goldberg’s remarks, in which she downplayed his previous assertion that Hollywood is a “very liberal town.” Goldberg pointed to actors like Voight and Quaid as examples of Republicans who have continued to thrive in the entertainment business. In his rebuttal, Levi noted that, while conservative actors existed in the past, the current climate makes it more difficult to be open about such views without reaching a certain level of success.
“To Whoopi’s point, back in the day there may have been more of a balance… But you really have to be at a certain level of your career in order to get away with it,” Levi said. He added that the ability to name only two prominent conservative actors highlights the scarcity of such figures in today’s Hollywood.
The video from Levi comes as one of the most trusted syndicated personalities on radio offered a surprise endorsement of Trump over the weekend, writes Fox Business.
Dave Ramsey announced he was endorsing Trump, telling listeners who disagree with him that they can try all they want to cancel him for the move, but it won’t work.
“I’m looking at ideas and which idea lands on which side of the aisle,” Ramsey said. “Where am I most likely to get a tax policy that I like? Where am I most likely to get an immigration policy I like? Where am I most likely to get a foreign policy I like? Where am I most likely to get a gun policy I like? A climate change policy I like? A woke policy I like? That I agree with.”
“And I can check those boxes very clearly, very quickly on these two candidates,” he said. “So I’m going to tell you, I’m voting for Donald Trump. Because I checked those boxes and more of them are on that side than the other.”
