Melania Trump is threatening Hunter Biden with a $1 billion defamation lawsuit, demanding he retract statements linking her to Jeffrey Epstein or face legal action. The warning follows an early August 2025 appearance Biden made on the YouTube series “Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan,” where he alleged that Epstein introduced Melania to Donald Trump.
In a letter dated August 6, 2025, obtained by Fox News Digital, Melania’s attorney, Alejandro Brito, called Biden’s comments “false, defamatory, disparaging, and inflammatory statements” that caused the First Lady “overwhelming financial and reputational harm.” The letter ordered Biden to retract the statements, issue a public apology, and preserve all relevant records, warning that failure to comply by August 7 at 5 p.m. EST would trigger legal action seeking damages exceeding $1 billion.
Biden’s remarks, including the assertion that “Epstein introduced Melania to Trump. The connections are, like, so wide and deep,” were attributed to journalist Michael Wolff, whom Brito described as a “serial fabulist.” The claims quickly spread online and through media outlets, amplifying the alleged damage to Melania’s reputation. The Trumps maintain she met Donald Trump through modeling agent Paolo Zampolli at a 1998 New York Fashion Week party, as recounted in her autobiography Melania. A source told Fox News Digital that Biden missed the compliance deadline and allegedly leaked the letter to a reporter.
The move is the latest in a string of legal threats from Melania’s team aimed at quashing similar allegations. The Daily Beast recently retracted an article suggesting a Melania–Epstein link after receiving a cease-and-desist letter, apologizing for any “confusion or misunderstanding.” Democratic strategist James Carville also apologized on his Politics War Room podcast after receiving legal pressure, removing the offending video and comments. “I also take back these statements and apologize,” Carville said.

Melania aide Nick Clemens underscored her resolve, stating, “First Lady Melania Trump’s attorneys are actively ensuring immediate retractions and apologies by those who spread malicious, defamatory falsehoods. The true account of how the First Lady met President Trump is in her best-selling book, ‘Melania.’”
President Trump backed up his wife, saying, “Well, I said go forward, you know, I’ve done pretty well on these lawsuits lately, and I said, go forward with it,” Trump said during his Thursday morning Fox News Radio interview with host Brian Kilmeade.
Trump told the Fox host that Epstein had “nothing” to do with meeting Melania, explaining that “they do that to demean, they make up stories.”
“I mean, I can tell you exactly how it wasn’t—, it was another person, actually. I did meet through another person. But it wasn’t Jeffrey Epstein,” the president said. “Yeah, I told her, let’s go ahead and do it. I let her use my lawyers.”
“She was very upset about it,” the president added.
Hunter Biden, for his part, is not backing down.
