By Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed is campaigning against big money and the “Epstein class” while benefiting from a Democratic fundraising operation powered by some of the wealthy donors his movement condemns.
The Senate hopeful, who has appeared alongside progressive Rep. Ro Khanna, has pledged to curb the influence of big money in politics. But his bid is receiving substantial help from Senate Majority PAC, the outside spending group aligned with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. The group’s financial backers include donors and organizations whose names appear in records associated with Jeffrey Epstein, although those references vary considerably in substance.

Senate Majority PAC’s Michigan commitment reached $30 million after another $10 million infusion, Axios reported. That support underscores how heavily El-Sayed’s campaign stands to benefit from the party’s established donor network.
The donor accounting cited in the source material identifies $15.15 million in contributions to Senate Majority PAC from individuals or organizations it connects to Epstein-related records, according to Breitbart. Those contributions went to the national super PAC; the figure does not establish that the money was donated directly to El-Sayed or earmarked for Michigan.
Among the donors identified is venture capitalist Vinod Khosla. According to the documents described in the source material, a February 2011 email from Boris Nikolic to Epstein listed Khosla as a desirable dinner guest. Later correspondence concerned office space for Nikolic, with Epstein advising him to “take your office at Khosla… it will come together.” Another message urged him to “find what infrastructure of khosal you can use… find a place where you can have someone over for dinner.”
The material also names Democratic megadonor Jon Stryker, whose approach to handling negative publicity was reportedly recommended by an Epstein associate in 2014. That reference alone does not establish that Stryker had a relationship with Epstein, just as an invitation or a proposed introduction does not establish that a meeting occurred.
George Soros’ Democracy PAC and Michael Bloomberg’s American Opportunity Action are also identified as Senate Majority PAC contributors. Reporting has placed Democracy PAC’s contributions to the group at $9 million this cycle, making the Soros-funded organization a substantial source of support for the Democratic Senate operation.
The broader tension between Democrats’ anti-elite rhetoric and their wealthy patrons extends beyond Michigan. LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, a major Democratic donor, has faced scrutiny over his contacts with Epstein after the financier’s 2008 conviction. Released records describe arrangements involving Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse, New Mexico ranch and private Caribbean island. Hoffman has expressed regret over the relationship; the documents described in that reporting do not allege criminal conduct by him.
Hoffman’s political spending has already become an issue in another competitive Senate contest. He gave more than $11 million to a super PAC supporting Texas Democrat James Talarico, whose Republican opponent has pointed to that support while challenging Democrats’ rhetoric about Epstein. That is a separate funding relationship from the donations identified in the Michigan source material, but it illustrates the same political vulnerability.
El-Sayed’s fundraising schedule further reflects his access to prominent Democratic circles. According to the invitation described in the source material, a Monday Hollywood fundraiser was scheduled at the home of Jeffrey Soros, George Soros’ nephew, with Pod Save America hosts Jon Favreau and Tommy Vietor and former Obama adviser Ben Rhodes listed as co-hosts.
Apparently “keeping money out of politics” just means something different when you’re a Democrat raking in the big bucks.
