Former Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell is facing new allegations from multiple women who say he sent sexually explicit messages and unsolicited nude content through Snapchat, years after promoting the platform as a tool to rebuild public trust.
According to a CNN investigation published earlier in the week, more than a dozen women described uncomfortable interactions with Swalwell, both in person and online, spanning roughly the past decade. The report follows his recent resignation from Congress amid separate accusations of rape and sexual assault.
Swalwell was an early adopter of Snapchat among lawmakers. In 2016, he promoted the app as a way to increase transparency in government. “We can restore a lot of faith that people have in their democracy by opening it up a little bit more,” he told The Hill at the time. “Snapchat is a great way to do that.” Media outlets later referred to him as the “Snapchat king of Congress.”
Several women told CNN that Swalwell’s interactions on the platform shifted from political engagement to personal and explicit exchanges. One woman said he would begin conversations by asking about her future plans before pivoting to questions such as “What are you wearing?” Others reported receiving sexually explicit messages and unsolicited nude photos and videos in 2021. A third woman described receiving “sexually tinged messages and videos.”
A former congressional staffer said she entered a consensual sexual relationship with Swalwell after he initially contacted her on Snapchat that same year. She told CNN he sent her “nude photos of himself and videos of him masturbating,” some of which showed his face and body. The woman said she saved the videos and later shared them with investigators.
“His stories would be his, like, congressional content, but then he would be sending me dick pics,” the former staffer alleged. She added that Swalwell sent her another explicit video late last year, weeks before launching his 2026 campaign for California governor.
In another account, a woman said Swalwell offered to write her a letter of recommendation after exchanging flirty messages on Snapchat, including comments about her “sexy pajamas,” despite the two never having met in person.
Clara Miklaucic, who was 19 and working as a restaurant hostess in 2021, said Swalwell contacted her on LinkedIn after a brief interaction at her workplace. She said he sent flirty messages, complimented her name as “beautiful,” and offered to write a recommendation letter. “I remember being surprised getting a message from him since I didn’t give him any information, other than probably my first name,” Miklaucic told CNN. “He was literally over double my age.”
Another woman said she reminded Swalwell that he was “married with three kids” after he added her on Snapchat and suggested they meet in person.
Swalwell has not publicly responded to the latest allegations, which add to a growing list of misconduct claims against the former lawmaker and Democratic frontrunner for California governor.
