Elon Musk warned Wednesday that he would fight back against Democrats preparing congressional investigations into his companies and government service if they retake the House in November. His response followed a Politico report detailing potential inquiries into his work with the Department of Government Efficiency, federal contracts and satellite communications in Ukraine.
“Live by the sword, die by the sword. Those who pick fights with me should understand that I will find out who is really pulling the strings and come for them, not just their puppets,” Musk wrote on Twitter. He did not identify whom he believed was directing the proposed investigations or explain what action he intended to take.

As New Conservative Post reported Tuesday, Democrats across several committees are preparing to scrutinize Musk if voters give them control of the chamber. Their plans would place one of the Republican Party’s largest financial supporters at the center of a renewed congressional oversight campaign.
A spokesperson for Rep. Robert Garcia of California, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, told Politico the panel has “a lot of questions about Elon Musk’s role in DOGE and it is something we plan to investigate.” The proposed scrutiny includes DOGE’s reductions in the federal workforce, access to government data and handling of congressionally approved spending.
Other potential inquiries would examine SpaceX’s multibillion-dollar NASA contracts, clean-energy subsidies benefiting Tesla and questions about satellite service disruptions affecting Ukrainian military communications. Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington has raised concerns about the influence a private contractor can exercise over communications used during a war.
Rep. Zoe Lofgren of California, the ranking Democrat on the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee, has cited the “sheer number of conflicts of interest” surrounding Musk. She also wants scrutiny of DOGE’s effects on federal science agencies, including canceled grants and employee firings.
The confrontation follows Musk’s departure from government in May 2025 and his subsequent break with President Donald Trump over Republican spending policy. Musk later resumed substantial support for Republican congressional campaigns after floating the creation of a third party.
Musk’s representatives did not respond to Politico’s requests for comment about the proposed probes. His public response offered no detailed defense of the conduct Democrats want to examine, but made clear that any investigations would bring a confrontation extending beyond the lawmakers leading them.
